Romanian media mogul continues expansion on the Internet

Adrian Sîrbu’s Internet company, Media Pro Interactiv, launched on Monday Omsaracombogat.ro [RO], the site of a Romanian sitcom broadcast on Sîrbu’s TV station, Pro TV. Omsaracombogat.ro is the fifth spinoff of a Sîrbu television show launched since the beginning of the autumn.

The site includes some picures, news, a making of section, a blog and a “Downloads” section, where some pictures can be found.

The Internet expansion plans of the Romanian media mogul began this summer, with the establishment of Media Pro Interactiv and its population with a dozen of ex-employees of Boom/Netbridge, a successful Internet media shop/sites network/software developer. Managed by Orlando Nicoara, a well-known but yet controversial manager on the Romanian Internet, Media Pro Interactiv and the in-house departments of Adrian Sîrbu’s classical media launched during the last months five Internet spinoffs of some Pro TV and Acasă TV shows: Lacrimideiubire.ro, Dariaiubireamea.ro, Treifratidebelea.ro, Iubirecainfilme.ro and Omsaracombogat.ro [all:RO]. Also, Protv.ro and Acasatv.ro both went through some face lifts a few weeks ago.

Adrian Sîrbu is one of the ‘big five’ on the Romanian media market. He has the reputation of both a media visionary, due to the launching of Pro TV in December 1995, and a beneficiary of some favors from the ex-government social-democrat party, in exchange to a friendly treatment of the political power in the media in his holding. The so-called Media Pro empire includes among others the Pro TV (Sîrbu - 10 %, CME - 90 %), the most important commercial TV station in Romania, and the Acasă TV (same ownership structure), a very successful mass market soap operas women television. Sîrbu’s print company, Publimedia, includes the Romanian editions of Playboy and Maxim, a successful niche business daily, Ziarul financiar, Business Magazin and other titles. Sîrbu also owns the Pro FM and InfoPro radios.
