‘Iubire ca in filme’ (approx. translation: ‘Hollywood Love’), one of the soap operas produced by Media Pro Studios, has an Internet site at www.iubirecainfilme.ro. The site launching, announced today by the broadcasting station’s PR, comes after the establishment of a strong new media division inside one of the most important television and print media holdings in Romania, Media Pro. At the end of this Summer, a dozen of managers from Boom/Netbridge (strong Romanian software developer, ad broker, site designer) left the company to form Media Pro Interactive, the Internet division of Media Pro or the so-called ‘Pro’ empire. Media Pro is a conglomerate of companies run by Romanian media visionary Adrian Sarbu, and controlled by CME (Central European Media Enterprises).

UPDATE Nov. 7: Acasa TV announced the launching of the site belonging to the 2nd Romanian soap running, www.dariaiubireamea.ro (’Daria, my love’).

The Media Pro empire includes:

  • Pro TV, the most successful commercial TV station in Romania (3,5 % avg. rating points/day)
  • Acasa TV, soap operas & women popular channel, broadcaster of ‘Iubire ca in filme’, from Monday to Thursday, at 20.30.
  • Ziarul financiar, the Romanian ‘Financial Times’
  • the Romanian edition of Playboy
  • various other TV stations and print titles, such as Pro TV International, Pro FM radio, Maxim, Business Magazin, Pro TV Magazin (tv guide) etc.

Adrian Sarbu owns 10 per cent of Media Pro International, in association with CME (80 %) and various, greater shares in the other media companies. Earlier this year, he has been apointed as the Central Europe manager of CME. Two of Acasa TV’s soap operas were sold, as a concept or as a finished product, to various TV stations in East Europe.

Sarbu is usually regarded as a media visionary, although there are strong allegations about various degrees of manipulation by his media channels, in favor of the PSD (social-democratic party, ex-communists).
