Today, „Gandul” („The Thought”) newspaper has been relaunched. From the press release:

  • berliner format (replacing broadsheet), 32 pages Monday-Thursday, 24 Friday-Saturday
  • same price: 0,9 RON (slightly less than 0,3 euros, slightly more than other newspapers)/copy
  • printed circulation: „up to” 50.000 copies
  • new sections: Europe, Government, Careers, Media Planet, Kaleidoscope, Trends
  • some other new pages: GO, readers’ opinions
  • improvements on the web site: „The Thought of the Day” in audio, GO section (announced)
  • Cristian Tudor Popescu, the director, wants the newspaper to be „warmer, closer to the readers”
  • slogan: „cold mind, warm heart”.

„Gandul” appeared in May 2005 as a result of the split of the „Adevarul” team. Almost all the journalists left the 2nd title as a reaction to the owner’s decision to convert the newspaper’s income into dividends. The newspaper started at 50,000 sold copies to go down to 31,000 in June 2006, according to BRAT (the Romanian ABC). Started as a newspaper own by its journalists (or rather by its board, the Editorial Council), “Gandul” was sold in the Spring of 2006 to Publimedia, a print company owned by the media mogul Adrian Sarbu.
